2006/07 MATCH REPORTS

2006/07 Reports:
U’s v Bishops Stortford (17/02/07)

Final score: 2-3

Sutton made the trip to the league leaders without Paul Honey and John Scarborough, and twice came from behind. After initially going one goal down Sutton were finding it difficult to carve out chances in front of goal. From a Richard Harris throw, via a Stortford defenders head, Warren McBean managed to hook the ball back over his head and into the opposite side of the net to bring the U's level. Going into the break it was all level and Sutton came out for the second looking a little more sprightly and put a little bit of pressure on themselves. The U's gifted Stortford their second after the ball was given away very cheaply in the midfield. The U's continued to try and find an equaliser and drew level when Bashiru Alimi struck a sweet left footed shot low into the bottom left hand corner of the 'keepers net. But it wasn't over there and the Blues capitalised on some poor defending to grab the game winner.

U’s v Eastleigh (20/02/07)

Final score: 2-2

The U's will be disappointed that they didn't do better against a team that is below them in the league. After initially going behind the yellows battled hard to get back into the game. Two quickfire goal mouth scrambles, finished by McBean and Gray, gave Sutton the lead but once again from then on the U's seemed to sit back too much. Eastleigh drew level in the 52nd minute after Lewis Gonsalves conceded a free-kick just outside the area. The resulting shot was drifted over the wall and in off the post. Neither 'keeper was then really called into action for the remainder of the game. The game was also blighted by some incredibly inconsistent and occasionally baffling refereeing.

Team: G Hogan, A Bray, L Gonsalves, R Palmer, T Quinton, P Honey, M Gray (C Tanner), R Gaynor, R Harris, W McBean, B Alimi. Subs (not used): L Naughton, R Blackwell, J Henry, P Fear

Goals: McBean (18), Gray (22)

Eastleigh: J Pullen, T Mustafa, I Oliver, J Brown, C Collins, K El-Salahi, D Smith, A Forbes, S Watts (C Wilson-Denis), D Hughes, D Wheeler (L George) Subs (not used): S West, R Marshall, W Shaw

Goals: Forbes (11), Watts (52)

U’s v Hayes (24/02/07)

Final score: 1-0

On a heavy pitch Sutton claimed all three points with a Tony Quinton goal in the 20th minute. Up to that point the U's had peppered the Hayes goal with both Ross Gaynor and Matt Gray hitting the framework. Hayes then began to work their way back into the game, but just couldn't create any chances in front of goal. The second half was fairly equal in possession but again Hayes failed to trouble Phil Wilson. At the other end though Kevin Davies was called into action on more than one occasion, making excellent saves from Jason Henry and Gaynor in particular.

Team: P Wilson, C Tanner, L Gonsalves, R Palmer, T Quinton, P Honey, M Gray, R Gaynor, R Harris (J Henry), W McBean, B Alimi (A Bray). Subs (not used): L Naughton, E Akuamoah, P Fear

Goals: Quinton (20)

Hayes: K Davies, J Dyer, G Nauko, M E’Bayer, A Logie, O Jeffrey, D Dyer, R Ashe, M Bartley (K Knight), S Palmer, L Feeney. Subs (not used): J Haverson, A Wembakungu, K Karamoko
