2007/08 MATCH REPORTS

2007/08 Reports:
U’s v Havant & Waterlooville (05/04/08)

Final score: 0-2

With Jimmy Dack in charge of his first game the U's put in a good performance against a Havant team that is still in the running for a playoff place. The first half saw good football from both sides but it was Havant that broke quickly in the 45th minute and took a one-nil lead going into the break.
Havant scored again eleven minutes after the break effectively putting the game out of reach. But, if it hadn't been for Phil Wilson and a last gasp lunge from Alan Bray, that put the ball on to the bar, the Hawk's could've had a couple more. At the other end Jason Goodchild was unlucky to hit the bar from outside the box when the 'keeper was out of position and a goal mouth scramble stopped a late effort from Ouzo Opara.

U’s v Welling United (12/04/08)

Final score: 1-2

Craig Dundas got the U's off to a flying start when Jerson Dos Santos' cross was allowed to get through to him. After taking a touch, Dundas proceeded to fire his shot in to the roof of the net. Welling got back to equal pegging when a looping free-kick caught Phil Wilson off his line and dropped in at the back post. Welling's second came after the U's failed to clear the ball on their right wing. The ball was then played across to the other side of the box where a Wings' striker cut in and slotted the ball past Phil Wilson.

U’s v Bath City (19/04/08)

Final score: 3-2

For the second game on the trot the U's took an early lead. Tony Cuff's cross from the right after seven minutes was glanced by Craig Dundas across the goal and inside the far post. Five minutes later Bath were level after one of their forwards broke through and rounded Phil Wilson. However the heads didn't drop and when Dundas won the ball in the City box he managed to play it back to Warren McBean, who then turned inside his marker and shot past the 'keeper at the near post. Sutton's third, and a goal of the season contender, saw McBean pick the ball up on the left, he then proceeded to flick it between two defenders, into the area, turn inside another defender and then place a side-footed shot inside the far post. Absolute class!
The game changed with the second half sending off of Tony Cuff. It occurred when the Ref failed to give a freekick for a foul on Paul Honey and Cuff's subsequent tackle sparked a brawl, but only after a Bath player slid in with a much worse challenge of his own. Cuff was sent off and a few yellow cards were handed out as well. City then pulled one back, although it seemed that amongst the skirmish Phil Wilson was kept from getting to the ball. In the dying minutes City also had a goal disallowed for offside.

Team: Phil Wilson, Jamie Whisken, John Scarborough, Tom Hughes, Jerson Dos Santos (Jason Goodchild), Rob Hughes, Tony Cuff, Nicky Greene, Paul Honey, Craig Dundas, Warren McBean (Alan Bray). Subs (not used): Liam Wright, Joe McLoughlin, Jermiele Johnson.

U’s v Bognor Regis Town (22/04/08)

Final score: 1-1

It was almost two wins on the trot but with three minutes to go Bognor had to spoil the U's end of season turn around and in the process save their own season. Warren McBean's second half goal saw the Dundas-McBean combination at work again. It all started when Tony Cuff won the ball in midfield and then managed to play in Dundas, who volleyed the ball across the box for McBean to side foot home from 6 yards.

Team: Phil Wilson, Tony Cuff, John Scarborough, Tom Hughes (Alan Bray), Jamie Whisken, Paul Honey, Nicky Greene, Rob Hughes, Jerson Dos Santos (Liam Wright), Craig Dundas, Warren McBean. Subs (not used): Jermiele Johnson, Jason Goodchild, Joe McLoughlin.

U’s v Cambridge City (26/04/08)

Final score: 0-3

Sutton's season finally came to an end, but unfortunately they couldn't continue their good spell of form. One first half goal and two in the second from the visitors were more than enough to give City the three points. Liam Wright's second half diving header and Craig Dundas' one on one effort were the U's best chances, however the Yellows couldn't get on the score sheet.

Team: Phil Wilson, Tony Cuff (Dean Sammut), Tom Hughes, Jamie Whisken, John Scarborough, Paul Honey, Jerson Dos Santos, Nicky Greene (Liam Wright), Rob Hughes, Craig Dundas, Warren McBean (Jason Goodchild). Subs (not used): Joe McLoughlin, Harry Ottaway.
