Final score: 2-1 Sutton travelled to Eastleigh and finally grabbed their first win of the season. A double from Ross Montague, the first a gift from Eastleigh's 'keeper and the second a wonderful strike, gave the U's enough of a cushion. An 86th minute goal for the home side made the final minutes a nail biting affair for the travelling support. Team: Phil Wilson, Asher Hudson, Darius Charles, John Scarborough, Louis Gonsalves, Nick Green, Malik Buari, Paul Honey, Ross Montague, Warren McBean, Craig Tanner. Subs: Gareth Williams, Liam Wright, Alan Bray, Liam Pestle, Jason Henry Goals: Montague (36, 68) Eastleigh: Pullen, Piper, Byles, Riviere (Oliver), Harris, El Salahi, Smith, Forbes, Sales (Bennett), Green (Hughes), Scannell Goals: Oliver (80) U’s v Dorchester (08/09/07) Final score: 1-3 After their first win of the season last week, the U's looked to find their first three points at GGL. Sutton, however, were behind after 6 minutes and this lead was soon added to by Dorchester's right winger. Warren McBean did pull Sutton within one, flicking the ball past the 'keeper into the bottom corner. The Magpies' were lucky to finish the game with ten men after former U Jones Awuah collected a booking for an unnecessary challenge on Phil Wilson and then proceeded to produce another two or three tackles that were worthy of a second yellow. Ironically it was Awuah who set up Dorchester's third as the U's were caught short at the back whilst searching for an equaliser. Team: Phil Wilson, Alan Bray, John Scarborough, Asher Hudson (Liam Pestle), Lewis Gonsalves, Malik Buari, Paul Honey (Solomon Taiwo), Nick Greene, Ross Montague (Jason Henry), Warren McBean, Craig Tanner. U’s v Newport (15/09/07) Final score: 0-2 The trip across the Severn was a wasted one as Sutton came away pointless. Warren McBean, Craig Watkins and Craig Tanner all got shots in on goal during the first half but they never really troubled the County 'keeper. Newport went one up when a free kick was sent in deep towards the back post and was headed back across goal. The U's came out for the second half with McBean instantly creating a chance as he weaved towards goal, forcing the keeper to come out and push it behind, however, the ref gave a goal kick. The U's task was then made even more daunting as Lewis Gonsalves picked up two yellow cards in the space of ten minutes. It was then only a matter of time before Newport got their second, which was brought about by a collision between Phil Wilson and Darius Charles allowing the County striker to roll the ball into an empty net. Sutton were then denied the chance of a consolation goal when McBean managed to break through and get around the 'keeper only to be called back for a very dodgy offside call. The introduction of Nick Greene and Jason Henry for Malik Buari and Watkins did little to change things, although Henry did force a full stretch save from the 'Port 'keeper. Team: Phil Wilson, Darius Charles, John Scarborough, Liam Pestle, Lewis Gonsalves, Malik Buari (Nick Greene), Solomon Taiwo, Bashiru Alimi, Warren McBean, Craig Watkins (Jason Henry), Craig Tanner. U’s v Hayes & Yeading (15/09/07) Final score: 1-2 In a game where a win was so important, the U's managed to throw away a 1-0 lead. After surviving a goalless first half, Sutton took the lead when Warren McBean produced his trademark finish of cutting in from the left and then curling a shot in at the far post. The visitors eventually equalised and then went on to grab the winner when a Sutton defender handled in the box. In the dying minutes the U's might have grabbed an equaliser of their own but some last gasp defending kept the oppo's lead intact. Team: Gareth Williams, Alan Bray, Lewis Gonsalves, John Scarborough, Liam Pestle, Bashiru Alimi, Paul Honey, Solomon Taiwo (Nick Greene), Malik Buari, Warren McBean, Craig Watkins (Jason Henry). Subs (not used): Phil Wilson, Asher Hudson. U’s v Cambridge (22/09/07) Final score: 1-4 For the second game on the trot the U's threw away a possible three points. After a Lewis Gonsalves header had put Sutton one up within ten minutes the yellows were untroubled for the best part of the next sixty minutes and had several chances to increase their slender lead. Then on seventy minutes the wheels fell off and after two goals in the same number of minutes it was the home side that were in the driving seat. The U's just couldn't find a response and Cambridge eventually put the game well out of Sutton's reach with another two goals. Team: Gareth Williams, Alan Bray, Lewis Gonsalves, John Scarborough, Liam Pestle, Bashiru Alimi, Paul Honey, Nick Greene, Craig Tanner, Warren McBean, Craig Watkins. Subs (not used): Phil Wilson, Asher Hudson, Ross White, Solomon Taiwo, Jason Henry. Goals: Gonsalves (11) Cambridge: - Goals: Midgley (68), Gash (69), Chaffey (75), Gash (88)
U’s v Woodford United FA Cup 2QR (29/09/07) Final score: 1-1 After going one nil up in the first minute through a Nicky Greene goal Sutton once again managed to throw away a slender lead.
