2007/08 MATCH REPORTS

2007/08 Reports:
U’s v Bognor Town (01/03/08)

Final score: 0-2

After a good opening first quarter of an hour the U's struggled to create chances in this vital match. Harry Ottaway had Sutton's best chance in the first half when the Bognor 'keeper fluffed a clearance straight to him, unfortunately Ottway didn't connect well with the ball and it bobbled back to a grateful 'keeper. Bognor's opener came from a corner whilst Alan Bray was off the field receiving treatment. Once Bognor went two up the U's found it increasingly difficult to create anything useful in front of goal and with the game in it's final minutes Paul Honey managed to lay Steffan Ball in, but his shot blazed wide.

Team: Phil Wilson, Dean Sammut, John Scarborough, Alan Bray, Paul Honey, Jason Goodchild, Rob Hughes, Harry Ottaway (Jermiele Johnson), Craig Dundas, Steffan Ball, Nicky Greene (Liam Wright). Subs (not used): Jamaal Horne, Tony Cuff, Joe McLoughlin.

U’s v Woking, SSC (04/03/08)

Final score: 1-3

The Cards went one-nil up just after 10 minutes but the U's equalised half an hour later when Jermiele Johnson rounded the 'keeper and calmly finished from a tight angle. Woking secured their place in the next round with two second half goals, although their third had a touch of controversy about it. A shot was deflected behind for a goal kick, but for some reason the Ref gave a corner, from which the Blue Square Premier side got their final goal.

U’s v Braintree Town (08/03/08)

U’s v Eastbourne Borough (15/03/08)

Final score: 1-5

In a game which the U's were going to have to pull a superb performance out of the bag to have a chance of getting anything from, they decided not to show up until the visitors were already five-nil up. In the dying stages the U's were denied two penalties in quick succession. The first when Craig Dundas was hauled down just inside the area, for which a free-kick just outside the box was given. Then from that free-kick the ball was stabbed goalwards and then saved spectacularly off the line by the hand of Eastbourne's number ten. Unfortunately, the ref didn't see the incident through the forest of 'tall' players in front of him. Karim El-Salahi then bagged a consolation goal with just under ten minutes to go.

Team: Kevin Davies, Jamie Whisken, Rob Hughes, John Scarborough (Tom Hughes), Karim El-Salahi, Bashiru Alimi, Jason Goochild, Paul Honey, Liam Wright (Billy Dunn), Craig Dundas, Jermiele Johnson (Tony Cuff). Subs (not used): Harry Ottaway, Steffan Ball.

U’s v Lewes (22/03/08)

Final score: 0-3

The U's knew they'd be in for a difficult game, but did little to help the situation. Kevin Davies gifted Lewes the opener as he fumbled a cross which was then pounced upon. This was then added to when Tom Hughes conceded a free kick on the edge of the box and Davies was out of position as he tried to anticipate the destination of the shot only to see it go the other way. By half time the Rooks were three nil up and on cruise control.
After the interval Lewes didn't really look interested in the game. A couple of chances did fall to prolific youth striker Billy Dunn, but the Lewes 'keeper was otherwise untroubled.

Team: Kevin Davies, Jamie Whisken, Dean Sammut, Tom Hughes, Karim El-Salahi, Bashiru Alimi, Jason Goodchild, Billy Dunn, Tony Cuff (Liam Wright), Craig Dundas, Jermiele Johnson (Jerson Dos Santos). Subs (not used): Ouzo Opara, John Scarborough.

U’s v Bishop's Stortford (24/03/08)

Final score: 1-3

The U's travelled to Stortford and came away on the end of a three - one loss. Once again Sutton were let down by the Ref, who on two separate occasions couldn't find his bottle to send off two Stortford players for professional fouls. Jason Goodchild grabbed Sutton's only goal.

Team: Kevin Davies, Dean Sammut, James Whisken, Tom Hughes, Karim El-Salahi, Jason Goodchild, Jermiele Johnson, (Billy Dunn), Nicky Greene (Harry Ottaway), Rob Hughes, Craig Dundas, Liam Wright. Subs (not used): Alan Bray, Jerson Dos Santos, Phil Wilson

Goals: Goodchild (79)

U’s v Fisher Athletic (29/03/08)

Final score: 0-2

After going behind within fifteen minutes the U's didn't really pick their heads up until the second half and by that time the lead had been doubled, although Phil Wilson had pulled off a couple of miraculous saves to keep the deficit down.
Second half chances fell to Harry Ottaway and Craig Dundas, with Ottaway blasting wide and Dundas forcing a good save from the 'keeper. As the clock ticked down it looked like the big 'R' might be looming, but results elsewhere have given us a mathematical chance of survival.

Team: Phil Wilson, Jamie Whisken, Dean Sammut, Alan Bray, Karim El-Salahi, Nicky Greene (Billy Dunn), Jason Goodchild, Rob Hughes, Harry Ottaway, Craig Dundas, Jermiele Johnson (Liam Wright). Subs (not used): John Scarborough, Tom Hughes, Kevin Davies.
