Final score: 1-1 On their return to the Ryman league Sutton could've scored in the first few minutes. Craig Dundas stayed on his feet after being fouled in the box, but his poked shot deflected off the 'keeper around the post. Then from the resulting corner Chris Collins's header was cleared off the line. The U's then found themselves behind after an excellent interchange saw a curling shot beat Paul Nicholls. Sutton, then leveled through debutant Gavin McCallum who placed Craig Davis's cross into the bottom corner. Then the madness set in and Steve McKimm blatantly handled a cross that was heading towards a Harlow player beyond the far post. Fortunately he only received a yellow card and the penalty was then blasted on to the crossbar. The second half saw the U's force the Harlow 'keeper into more action, which was in contrast to the other end as the only trouble that the Hawk's caused Nicholls was when their number 10 followed through very late and kicked him in the head. However Harlow still had a chance near the end to take all three points but a long range lob thankfully missed the goal. The first half saw the U's have a lot of chances that didn't hit the target and the Rams have an effort cleared off the line. The second half had barely started when a cross to the back post found an unmarked player to head in and give Ramsgate the lead. The U's took their time but eventually leveled when Dean Palmer headed home. For the next 10 minutes Sutton threw everything forward but couldn't find the winning goal. [Back to Top] U’s v Hendon (23/08/08) Final score: 1-0 In their third league game the U's managed to grab their first home win since February 9th. Sutton, who played in all white, got on the score sheet after Gavin McCallum weaved in the box and was clipped from behind, McCallum then stepped up to take the spot kick himself and proceeded to send the 'keeper the wrong way. Apart from the spot kick and an earlier attempt from McCallum that came back off the post, the U's never really tested the Hendon 'keeper and at the other end Paul Nicholls also had a relatively easy game. Team: P Nicholls, J Smith, K El-Salahi, C Collins, A Bray, G Heeroo, M Hann (A Roberts), D Palmer (S McKimm), C Dundas, S West (K George), G McCallum. Subs (not used): D Smith, T Kavanagh. [Back to Top] U’s v Tooting & Mitcham United (25/08/08) Final score: 2-4 An embarrassing display from the U's and the referee saw the Terrors romp to a well deserved victory. The U's fell behind after Paul Nicholls dallied too long on a back pass and was then knocked off his feet allowing the Tooting player to put the ball in to the empty net. Things got worse for Sutton as they eventually found themselves behind by four goals It wasn't until the last ten or so minutes that the U's got a shot on target, which was shortly followed by Gavin McCallum bagging a pair of well taken goals. After the final whistle had blown, U's manager, Paul Doswell applauded the away support and also said "Sorry" for the performance they had just witnessed. [Back to Top] U’s v Hastings United (30/08/08) Final score: 2-1 Sutton bounced back from their bank holiday nightmare with a much better display. The U's looked sharp from the off and should've have gone one-nil up from the penalty spot, but Gavin McCallum scuffed his shot and the 'keeper dived low to his right for an easy save. This frustrated MCallum who went on to make up for his penalty miss when he broke past the Hastings right back and then beat the 'keeper at the near post. Shortly after that Hastings produced their first meaningful attack and managed to get back on level terms. The white clad U's retook the lead in the second half when a well timed pass from Dean Palmer found Delando Smith on his own in the Hastings box, who then shot low in to the bottom corner. Late on the U's had further chances to add to their tally with Steve McKimm and Adam Roberts coming close.
